Cleaning BDP-1 ?
« on: 3 Jan 2015, 09:09 pm »
I have been going nuts trying to find why my system has been getting darker and darker.  Highs had become significantly attenuated.  I swapped out components until I determined my BDP-1 to be the culprit.  I tried different cables into the unit and a different hdd.  I opened the unit to see if anything looked to be amiss.  I found nothing but did slightly pull the output card from the motherboard and reseated it.  Plugged it in and found the highs had improved.  I again opened the cover and thought about cleaning the contacts on the card but was nervous about removing it.  Instead, I pulled the fuses and cleaned them with deoxit and alcohol.  This proved to be a vast improvement.

I am wondering if it makes sense to clean any other contacts within the BDP-1.  The results of a simple friction cleaning of the output board and a chemical cleaning of the fuse holder were significant; restoring my missing HF's.

Any advice?
