Now that we've finalized the standard cabinet design, it was time to build a pair of Exotica 3's for this year's Rocky Mountain Audiofest.

Since we're leaving for the show on Monday, it was about time to put the finishing touches on these.

I found an interesting batch of "burly marbled walnut" that had some fiddleback figuring going on as well.  We had done a pair of speakers in claro walnut with a deep orange dye in the past and it turned out great.  So we decided to use this new veneer with the same dye process. And, of course, we had to hand rub them to high gloss (goes without saying).

Here are the results...

And a side shot...

I'm hoping no one buys them at RMAF so that I can take them home!

This production cabinet style is looking much better than the prototype one. I love the finsish....hum...someday....

That is really a beautiful speaker. Maybe the best overall I have seen. It is not the most fancy veneer, not most uniquite veneer, just a solid heavy, antique, simply beautiful.

Jim, they are stunning!!  I'm sure they are bound to get snatched up!!

Just curious, with the original cabinet design you were going with thicker walls in the active bass section.  Is that still the case with this new design?  What will the price be for standard finish of this new design?

Best of luck at the show.

Damn... good thing I didn't know that was an option... that would look great over the tamo ash.

Very nice looking.  I dig those.

In the final cabinet design, we used well-braced 1" walls with Blackhole 5 applied internally. (The prototype cabinets used 3/4" walls with an extra 3/4" around the woofer section.) The 1" walls with the Blackhole 5 produce pretty much the same result.

The Exotica 3's are priced at $11,995 in a standard finish.  Not inexpensive, but a great value in terms of price/performance.

Very, very nice. The variety of choices and craftsmanship you put into your veneers is amazing.
