Congrats.  For some reason they did not sound quite right to me on Friday but on Sunday they sounded pretty darn nice.  Very effortless and certainly too much of a beast for such a small room - you could sense their potential.

Did I miss it yet again from the online Stereophile Show Report Coverage! Not a mention of VSA reporting?  Correct me if I'm wrong,,, please tell me, it aint so! But even NAD and Marantz were worthy of comment, yet nothing on an important new product launch from VSA.  Probably just an oversight.  Like not mentioning VSA on the pages of the Stereophile Recommended Component Issues over the years.  Maybe I just missed the snub, again.  Jack

I think there were a couple reasons... the speakers were muffled with pillows and allowed to play all night so they were more broke-in Sunday vs Friday and they were suffering from irregular voltages and dirty AC power... we tried my modded SurgeX Friday evening and it seemed to take care of the power issues.

Even without full break in I thought they sounded amazing on Sunday and I'm not surprised one bit they are getting best-in-show awards. They are the only speaker I've ever heard that challenge TAD's place as my favorite speaker. I hope to get to hear them fully broke-in someday.

Funny coincidence Dave, I went to last years Tokyo show with 2 other VS owners. We all agreed we liked TAD best too. There is a coherence shared by these two brands that others have only in much smaller sweet spots. I love speakers that sound good anywhere you are in a room, or outside it!

Hello Fellow Audiophiles,

Due to scheduling the shipment of gear to RMAF, we didn't have enough time to fully break in the VR-55's.  They were a bit bright on the first day, but most of the problem was fluctuating a.c. power.   Dave from ZenWave Audio, a very nice fellow who happened to stop by, offered to loan us his power conditioner as our Equi=Tech balanced transformer wasn't able to get rid of all the noise.  After he installed his conditioner Friday evening, 90% of the bright sound disappeared.  The other 10% was caused by a slight lack of break in, so by Saturday afternoon, the sound went through a complete change.

If you heard the system on Friday and did not have a chance to return on Saturday or Sunday, you couldn't know how the sound changed: it was dramatic.  Even I was shocked and very impressed, as I thought I "knew" what they sounded like from my six months of development.

Many visitors commented on the dynamics and clarity being "the best they heard."  We sold three pairs on Saturday to dealers, so I'm betting that this model is really going to take off.

Happy Listening,

AVS

Sounds like you guys have great taste in audio gear.  :green:

The TADs are pretty good with other gear but at last years RMAF, with $250k worth of TAD electronics driving the Evo towers and AJ himself doing the setup, they were spectacular. The VR55s are really the only speaker I've heard that are competitive. A big plus is they don't visually dominate the room like a huge speaker can, yet you get huge speaker performance out of them. I think this is one of their strongest points, who wants to put something like the big Legacy speakers in their living room? Those are basement/man-cave speakers, the VR55s would look good in a nice living room. It's hard to overstate how important that is and it will certainly help get the VR55's approval from significant others who place a high value on aesthetics and interior design.

Albert, thanks for mentioning my modded SurgeX, it was a great test for the prototype. It would be hard to find such crappy AC power elsewhere, and having one of the best systems in the world to try it out on was nice too.  :)

Albert,

I have Dave doing a complete cable package for my system right now.  What did you think of the Zenwave Audio modded SurgeX power conditioner?

Dave's power conditioner is in a league by itself.  It's the first one I've tried that beat our Equi=Tech balanced transformer (95 lbs worth of iron!).  Our big transformer quiets the sound, but Dave's power conditioner actually reduced distortion and glare that the Equi-=Tech did not eliminate.

Albert, you are too kind.  :green:

I can't take the credit really, I'm just improving upon an already solid design. I decided to do the mods because it offers a combination of features that are unavailable elsewhere. It's a very well built industrial unit, but it needed some help with parts quality to sound it's best.
