Chris wanted a pair of Supercharged SongTowers in walnut.  He wanted a little extra dark walnut dye on the entire speaker and even darker edges.

Here they are...

And a close-up...

Happy listening Chris!

I really love the joint work on the corners.  These are amazing.  All of the newer ones look great.  Not that the older speakers don't look awesome, but over time, I think things have kept getting better.

Jim, what do you use for dying?

I've had some fun with General Finishes stain dye, but I don't know what a pro uses.

The SongTowers showed up yesterday evening. Amazing. Just amazing. Every detail has been thought through from packaging, instructions, and build. As others have said, photos don't do them justice. They give you an idea, but you simply can't tell how beautiful these are till you've seen them in person. The color is very deep and rich, the burst effect is smooth, the build quality is as close to perfect as any human can achieve. Love the magnetic grill covers. Love them more when they’re off. :)

On to the sound... Just a quick run down of what I have these plugged in to: McIntosh 275 amp, AVA Fet Valve CF preamp, VPI Traveler with Dynavector 10x5 cart, MCS6700 with Ortofon 2M Red, OPPO BDP-103 plugged into a Jolida Glass FX III DAC.

These are my first pair of high end speakers. Everything I’ve had up to now has been mid-fi at best. I started with a pair of Infinity Reference 6s I bought around 1992. Then a few years ago bought a pair of Polk TSi400s. Both good speakers and the Polks are far better than their $500 a pair price would suggest. So this is a whole new thing for me.

First thing I put on was This Mortal Coil - It'll End in Tears “Song to the Siren.” A song I’ve heard at least a hundred times and never tire of. First thing I noticed, aside from an overall, WOW this sounds amazing, I could hear the most subtle of details. A very soft, faint inhale by Elizabeth Fraser caught by the microphone between verses. And then subtle sounds that danced from one speaker to another that I didn’t even realize where in the recording. Overall, the detail and balance where way deeper than I’d ever heard before in any speaker or system. The music was holographic and it was as if it was a presence in the room. It really is like hearing the music for the first time all over. Even old friends like Song to the Siren are brand new experiences.

Many thanks to Jim for his help in this and for the wonderful workmanship of these beautiful speakers. They will be with me a very long time.

Very cool getting new speakers and especially this level of speaker.  Now don't get paranoid and doubt the quality of all your gear.....well, maybe you can't avoid it once you settle in and realize how much you are getting now and perhaps you can get even more because the speakers are that darned good!!

Anywho, enjoy and don't doubt your gear.  Or doubt your gear. :duel:

After all this... I can't afford to doubt my gear!  :icon_lol: Outside of that, I definitely don't. It sounds so musical and dynamic. I'm sure I can do more, but for now I am really loving the whole setup. And plan to enjoy it for quite a while before making my next move. Wouldn't mind adding a reel to reel.  :D
