Yeah, I'd keep a watchful eye with porch lights on for awhile...and then some.  If co-inc-a-dinc then so be it, if not you're prepared.
Of course you could always move to the Caribbean and be done with it all   :icon_lol:

I too would be vigilant for quite some time, but don't rule out stupidity and embarrassment.

Maybe the guy did something really stupid that caused the short, like grab ahold of both + and - terminal connections and a ring crossed the gap. The guy is crapping himself, embarrassed as hell, and hopes he never sees you again.

Now wait one minute. This is MY paranoid thread. We dont need reason here. We get to say and do all sorts of wild eyed ideas or statements. If he wants his own paranoid thread, he can start his own.

It must be Friday.

I'd like to point out that I shaved yesterday and shower fairly often, so I didnt exactly look (or smell) especially offensive.

 He probably has a thread, about his wasted time and close encounter with nearly buying bad speakers from a pleasant smelling dude with a giant cat statue on his porch, on SoundSquare.

Wayner, the guy did NOT ask him to leave the room, he asked to hear some jazz that happened to be in the other room. There's no way that the guy could have known mrm didn't have any in the room.

It's unlikely that he could read mresseguie's mind, so he must have somehow tricked him into revealing that information. This is getting a bit worrying. I advise mresseguie to install new locks and deadbolts, change all passwords, and hire guards to keep an eye on things while he takes a two-week vacation. (Minimum)

Even with a home security system, wifey wonders about having newbies I've met here coming by for a listen (to my rather unique speakers).  Craig's list would have to be a step down.

Best get an exorcist in there - pronto! Burn incense. Make an offering to Saint Somebody (whoever is recommended as a specialist for this kind of thing). St. Christopher might be available in a pinch.

And don't overlook the possibility of divine intervention. Perhaps your creator of choice wants you to keep those speakers.

We keep a dangerous looking dog on the premises to ward off evil spirits.

Not directly, but the OP may have tipped him off as to where his music is stored and obviously, was in a different room.

I would never invite a stranger over to my house for anything. There have never been any related stories from people meeting people from Craig's List........

When I lived in LA, this guy (around 19 yo) I knew lived at home with his mom. He hung around somewhat shady characters. His place was burgled 3 times, so his mom just left the door open/screen door shut. They thought someone was home so they stopped.

I've made half a dozen Craigslist sales where I met the buyer at the Starbucks or McDonalds just down the street, but there were two occasions that I did allow someone to come to the house.  Both times I wore a spiffy black web belt with Sig Sauer P220, SOG Forge San Mai and Taser C2.

Now that could be construed as saying "I have some nice self defense gear to steal", but I prefer to think that it conveyed "if you come back uninvited with nefarious motives, there is zero chance that this aggressive weapon bearer will allow you to leave under your own power".

Both visitors ended up being very nice, earnest people that I had an initial good feel about from several phone conversations, but all in all, entertaining Craigslist visitors isn't really the best idea and I likely won't do it again.

Well, this has been a fun thread. I'll probably take down my Craigslist listing. I have a friend who runs a shop who can sell them for me. He's offered to in the past at no cost to me (I tend to spend $$$ there).

Now that I had a chance to sleep on it, I think it was just bad luck that a short happened just then. It is possible I did something wrong when I attached the speaker cables or the bridge pieces before that. I doubt he deliberately shorted the right channel connection. I suspect he decided there was NO way he was going to buy speakers that blow amplifiers. Imagine the stories he's telling his buddies in Eugene.

There was a huge brush fire about 1/2 a mile from my house last night. Hundreds of homes were evacuated from the area adjacent the the brushy area. I got an excellent view of much of it from my bedroom balcony (2nd fl). The possibility of hundreds of houses catching fire beside my neighborhood gave me just a wee bit of perspective on which things (and people) are important in my life. I see there are still areas that must be smoldering as there is still considerable smoke rising. I'll take a stroll over in a few.

Blowing a sale on $400 speakers is not high up there on my list of most important things to worry about.

Enjoy life, folks!

Michael
