I can definitely see how the family sound carries over from the X-718 I'm auditioning based on what the reviewer had to say about the 708.  

I think the 718 addresses the open-ness in the midrange and highs though.  While still not the absolute most palpable/real sounding speaker I've ever heard it's not veiled at all.  I have a hard time finding anything to nitpick on the 718's.
