FS...Selah Audio ExcelArrays. Denver $2,400
« on: 5 Jan 2014, 09:22 pm »
Selling my beloved Selah Audio ExcelArrays. I am the original owner, and these speakers have resided in a dedicated, smoke, child, and pet free listening room from day one. They are in excellent condition, and have only a few very minor blemishes, which can not be seen unless right on top of them.

If you've ever dreamed of owning a line array speaker, with top quality parts...7" W18 Seas Excel Magnesium Cone Woofers, 45" Newform ribbon tweeter, Mundorf Silver Oil caps, now is your opportunity.

The ExcelArrays create a very realistic soundstage, in terms of image height, width, and depth. They are also very transparent, resolving, delicate, and nuanced, with tremendous punch and outstanding dynamics. This is a sealed design, so bass is very tight and fast. In room bass response reaches well below 35 Hz. The ExcelArrays are also very easy to drive, and perfect for tube amps. At one point I was driving them very successfully with a 40 watt SET amp.

Although there has never been any professional reviews written on them, you can find numerous comments on the net, by searching for Selah ExcelArrays.

The crossover parts and drivers alone retail for close to 6K.

Cabinets are heavily braced (Each Excel Driver is in their own sealed box)

Sensitivity: 91dB Impedance: Bass array 10 ohms / Ribbon array 5 ohms

The only reason I'm selling them is because its time for something different.

These speakers are large and heavy, so local pickup would be best. I do have the original boxes for the Newform ribbons, and the wooden crates for the main cabinets, although they are dissembled for storage at the moment. Shipping would need to be via freight service, do to size and weight.

Asking $2,400

Live in the Denver metro area.

Lovely!  I've also wanted to try these.

3 Questions:

1. Who did the boxwork?

2. What's the efficiency/ (I run the 30w PASS INT-30A)

3.  Would you consider trades or partial trades?  I have a pair of Montana EPSIIs (listed here), and a pair of Vaughn Zinfandels.  For the right deal, I'd ride out from StL to Denver in my truck, and save usthe freight.

Best,

John

Hi John,

The box work was done by Brain King out of California, under the direction of Rick Craig from Selah Audio.

Sensitivity: 91dB Impedance: Bass array 10 ohms / Ribbon array 5 ohms

I haven't heard either of the speakers you are considering trading, so it's hard to say whether I'd be up for a trade or not.

I've upgraded all the caps to Mundorf silver oil, so they're sounding quite a bit better than the last time you heard them.

Good to hear from you.

Thanks Gary!  Lot's of press on the Montanas of course, and some on the Vaughns.  I bought them both sight unheard!  But I can see not wanting to take a flyer in your position.

Maybe when the Montana's cell, we can work something out.

Cheers,

J

Oh wow, these are one of the pairs that I drooled over before ending up with my current arrays.  I hope they find a good home, best of luck with the sale!

Hi Gary,

I understand that you would prefer a local sale, understandably.  But if you want to consider shipping, I'd be interested.  Any idea what the price might be to 93117?  Also, do you have access to discounted freight shipping?  Thanks for your time!

Hi Matt,

I'm on my way out the door, but I'll get back to you. Short answer, yes I'd consider shipping.

Thanks

Price lowered $600, now $3,000. Considering the sound quality and caliber of the drivers and crossover parts in the ExcelArrays, this is an incredible deal.

Sweet holy lord for $2.4k these are the best deal anywhere on the preowned speaker market right now.  Can't believe no one has rented a Uhaul and picked these up yet!  If they're still around in September I might have to :)
