The upgrade stylus for the Tracker will make one heck of a difference.  And it is as cheap an improvement as you will make.

Minn Mark gave you a lousy suggestion, calling a dealer.  Galen politely blew you off.  Of course he wants to sell a table.  AT isn't one of his lines so he planted the seed of doubt without actually saying anything negative.  That's an old salesman trick and it worked didn't it?

Do you know how to mount and align a cart?  Maybe we assume too much.

You started this thread asking about the Concept or alternatives.  Grado is an entirely different sound, characterized by a lush midrange (vocals), boomy bass depending on model, and a mellow high end.  If Galen suggested it, I'm sure he sells it.....

If you're keeping the tracker get the stylus for $65.  Link is above.
I think I'm done with these kind of threads.  What a waste of time.

God I hope not. You're one of the few here whose every post I read, whether It's germane to what I'm doing, or not.

Neo,
With apologies to the OP, I just want to make it clear that I have absolutely no vested interest in GCA apart from being a very satisfied customer. I could have as easily recommended contacting the Needle Doctor; I'm happy with them, too.  I am by no means an analog expert and respectfully I disagree that it's 'lousy advice' to suggest contacting a dealer, local or otherwise. I hope the OP gets the information he needs to make an informed and rational choice.

Thanks, and happy listening,

Mark

Thanks for the kind words Doc.

I think people come here for advice to get opinions, informed or otherwise, and not just a sales job.  If someone posting on this forum is a dealer or manufacturer, they're supposed to declare themselves as such.  I believe that redirecting someone to a dealer is a disservice to them.  It would be better to not respond at all IMO.

The dealer was right in one respect.  When someone has high resolution speakers they tend to reveal all the flaws upstream.  Ribbon tweeters and hi res drivers are not of the forgiving variety.  John, someday when you can afford it, you will marvel at what an improved table can do.  In light of that, maybe you made a good choice.
