Newport audio show
« on: 2 Jun 2014, 01:47 am »
Spent the day at the Newport Beach Audio Video show yesterday. Fun event. Room acoustics in hotel rooms just don't seem ideal but the best sound of the day for my ears was the Muraudio domain omni passive electrostatic speakers paired with Meitner front end and Bryston 7BSST2 mono blocks. Just filled the room with clean alive midrange balanced well with the highs and lows. Fantastic! Way out of my price range, but fun to hear at any rate.

Hi Alphonse

Yes they used 7B's at the Montreal Show as well last month and it sounded excellent.

Not sure why you posted a picture of Focals, but I agree that trickle down to more affordable options would be a good thing. Don't know much about Muraudio, if they are a fairly new company, but just looking at their website you can order online, but I did not see a link to dealer network.

That pix looks a lot like the one from  Commercial Electronics here in Vancouver.  The new owner has decided that Bryston sucks and has given up  the dealership

I only posted the Focals because they were giants and it was in sort of a way of wondering if the electrostatics speakers could one day come in smaller sizes, much like the Bryston line of large and not so large speakers :thumb:

Hi

The Focals are not electrostatic but electrostatic speakers have to be large as the ability to move air at low distortion levels is a function of surface area and excursion and loading (horn).  The Quads are about the smallest full range electrostatic I am aware of that can play at reasonable levels.  Then you have speakers like the Martin Logan which try to get around the problem using dynamic woofers in combination with electrostatic mids and tweeters.

james                 Thanks James. I bought all my Bryston stuff there and was sad to see them without this great brand of equipment. The new dealer here is a long time hi end store and I hope a better choice of dealer. :thumb:
