For Sale - Headphone Amplifiers
« on: 6 Jul 2014, 09:40 pm »
I have decided on one pair of headphones and one headphone amplifier for my use, and now want to sell the items that I no longer use.   See For Sale: Accessories for 2 headphones.   I am the original owner of each item and, unless noted otherwise, are in very good condition, are unmodified, are in original packaging, and have manuals if originally supplied.   Approximate shipping weights noted.   Add shipping charges, from ZIP 18661.

- MK V solid state amp from www.littledot.net/   5 pounds, $150.00

- Chazz 2  from www.DIYHIFISupply.com/   This item is available only fully assembled.     I found this OTL tube amp to be better with 300-600 ohm headphones.   Comes with adapter for Sennheisers, original tubeset, (3)  NOS output tubes [(2) Philips JAN-6080WC, one with many hours, and (1) Tung Sol FAA-6080WA], and (2) pair of slightly used Psavane 12AU7T.   Original box for amp and original tubeset, a second box for adapter and additional tubes.   25 pounds, $375.00

- Did anyone else get SICphones amps through the Kickstarter offering?   I got two, so that I could break them in/try them out at the same time with both high and low impedance headphones, the two listed for sale in my other ad.  I heard potential, and thought that the limitation was the small switching power supply provided.   I purchased two linear power supplies from www. welbornelabs.com/ which set me back about the same  cost as the amps themselves.   Sure enough, potential realized, with clarity, soundstage, and drive.   I am keeping one of these for my own use, driving AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition headphones, and this other set of amp and linear power supply are now for sale.   No factory boxes, and no paperwork except for a photocopy of biasing instructions for the amp.   The original switching power supply is also included.   10 pounds, $350.00

- Mini Beast from www.transcendentsound.com/   This SE, OTL amp produces 4 watts per channel.   It was not designed to be a headphone amp, and will not drive a medium or high impedance load.   It did do well with the 62 ohm AKG K702.   I had thought that it would be a good amp for orthodynamics, but I never got my hands on a pair to try.   I built this amp from a kit.   The only upgraded electronic part is a larger capacitor, capacitance and voltage rating, just before the voltage regulator for the input tube filament supply.   I did make a few mechanical changes during the build.   The power switch is now on the rear panel near the IEC connector.   Two power supply wires that the manual noted were possible sources of hum are now shielded wire.   Two wood posts were added inside the chassis for cable tie points.   Most obviously, the two power transformers are now on plastic risers, with holes in the sides  and slots on the top, to provide for convection cooling of the transformers, and to eliminate conduction of heat to the metal chassis.   This amplifier has no volume control, so I drove it from a preamp output.   Comes with a new pair of input tubes, 3 new output tubes, and my crude DIT output adapter with a 1/4" headphone jack.   No factory boxes.   Will ship in 2 boxes, one for the chassis, the second for all other items.   30 pounds, $700.00

Thanks for looking.

Ad corrected.   Psavane tubes for Chazz 2 are 12AU7T, not 12AT7T.
