GR Research LGK Review - Video
« on: 17 Jun 2014, 01:26 pm »
Well folks, the LGK Review is finally here!

I thoroughly enjoyed knocking out this review! These little speakers are really something special with all things considered and highly recommended.

The link will be after the blurb...

"Like the story of David and Goliath, the LGK’s are speakers that prove when it comes to Hi-Fidelity that size can be deceiving. For anyone in the DIY crowrd that is looking for a small desktop speaker that could easily double duty in a medium room or larger room using filters, look no further. These speakers will knock your socks off. Near perfect midrange, pinpoint accuracy and imaging that sets the gold standard by which most speakers should be measures, this “little giant killers” are simply stunning especially at the asking price of $189/kit."

Thanks and please let me know if you have any comments, criticism or anything else to help improve my reviews!

Nice review Ron, enjoyable and informative  :thumb:
Might also be worht mentioning in a subsequent review/followup  that there are flat packs available for these making the cabinet construction very simple for  folks with  little/no DIY  experience or who lack the tools required to start from "scratch".

Thanks Jay! I thought I mentioned the packs at 3:10? Should I have explained that with more detail? This is the kind of feedback I was looking for! Thanks man!

Hey Ron
Well,  you did mnention Danny could hook people up with a woodworker but not so  much the flat packs which may really appeal to some as you still really get that DIY satisfaction which is lost when  you have a  cabinet maker build them for you (IMHO anyway).  Don't under estimate that DIY  satifsfaction, it is pretty cool as you did mention .

Here's an idea...  instead of getting the invoice from Danny for the  LGK's  that Sarah  wants to keep,  order youselves up a kit, get the flat  packs,  and  do a follow up showing everyone  how easy it can  be,  you guys will  enjoy them even more  !!

Good job, the close-up movement of the camera looks very professional. Wait until you hear the 8 or 12 inch Servo Woofers you should add to the LGK's!

I agree. Good job, especially keeping things in perspective. I appreciate the fact that you point out what the equipment you review is good at and what it is not so good at. Too often reviews make it sound like the particular piece of equipment can do everything for everybody. Since everything has strengths and weaknesses, these types of reviews leave me no better off than before I read them.

The music samples was a good touch. Even though the sound is going to be affected by whatever speakers a person is listening through. Of course, in my case I was listening to the LGK's through a pair of LGK's.

Your observations about the LGK's are spot on from my experience with them.

Ron---Just for comparisons sake, I'm going to assume that you're 21 (you're probably a little older, but not much). Mighty fine taste in music for a youngin', I'd say. John Lee Hooker and Amy Winehouse! Too bad about Amy; she clearly was the best new singer to come along in quite a while. When I was 21, I had an AR turntable with a Shure M91e cartridge, a Fisher A-100x integrated tube amplifier, and a pair of AR 4x loudspeakers. Because I'm hearing your system through a microphone, etc. I can't really know what it sounds like, but I'd guess it sounds better than mine did (nice reproduction of even the stand-up bass, ay?). I was bitten hard by the hi-fi bug, and two years later I had a Thorens TD-125Mk.II turntable, Decca Uni-pivot Arm and Decca Blue cartridge, Audio Research SP3 tube pre-amp, and Magneplanar 1-U's bi-amped with Audio Research tube amplifiers. I'll also bet that you are as ambitious a hi-fi enthusiast as I was, and that two years from now you will have a State-of-the-Art system.
