V Caps upgrade for Purist ?
« on: 27 Oct 2004, 09:48 pm »
Hi all,

I am wondering if the purist will benefit from upgrading the capacitors to V caps (telfon caps) from VH Audio ?   I am not sure if SS preamp can do any mod to it ?

Curt, you may want to comment on this ?
Many thanks.

If your talking about signal coupling caps, not power supply caps, V-Caps would hurt/ degrade the Purists sound quality.

The reason for this is that the Purist has NO caps in the signal path, it is a direct DC coupled preamplifier and that's as good as it gets  :D

With the noise floor so low already (i.e. hardly any noise) and the fact that the Purist is a preamp (i.e. doesn't need fast current surges like a power amp) I can't see much value in playing with the bypass caps.

That said, everyone has their own ideas and should explore them if they feel like it. That is if they're qualified enough to understand what they are doing and have the right tools. Enjoy the hobby just don't break anything  :)
