BBQ warning - Grill brushes
« on: 15 Jun 2014, 04:49 pm »
Hey all,
I'm on a BBQ forum, and every couple months, there's a thread about somebody dying, or nearly dying, after eating a single bristle from a grill/grate cleaning brush.
Most BBQ brushes are cheap and will "shed" their bristles. Problem is, that when they do, they stick to the grill/grate. Then when you put your food on there, the bristle sticks to the food.
Next thing that happens is you ingest the bristle and it gets caught in your intestines.

It's happening on a regular basis. So often that the CDC released a warning a couple years ago.

Here's the latest "victim" of grill cleaning brushes:

The best course of action, if you're not sure about your brush is to throw it away and use wadded up aluminium foil and your tongs to grab the foil ball to scrub the grill.

Be safe folks.

Bob, thanks for the warning. Just got a new grill/smoker for Fathers Day and I'll be tossing the old brush and using the foil trick.

Actually if you would CHEW YOUR FOOD, instead of wolfing it down...  you would notice a bit of wire in the food.
Not my problem.. but just mentioning it.
