Newbi question
« on: 17 May 2014, 02:29 am »
Just ordered my first AVA component; AVA FET600R.  It will be driving B&W802N's that I have owned for 12 yrs but have never felt I have had a great amp match for.

My current system run balanced interconnects. Frank recommend Blue Jean unbalanced interconnects. I am surprised by Low cost. I would like so feed back on BG interconnects...

Thanks,

Lee

I use BJ cables linking my TT to AVA Insight pre-amp, and my preamp to AVA Insight power amp.  I also use a BJC to link digital output CD to an AVA DAC. All are RCA (unbalanced). I have compared to Kimber Hero ICs and to my ears can't tell any negative difference.  Very happy with my Blue Jeans cables. Recommended.

You bought a great amp.

Happy listening !

I use them throughout my system. I figure Mr. Van Alstine wouldn't use a cable that didn't perform well, and he knows a whole lot more about it than I care to know.

We can argue forever about whether cables make an audible difference. But what is for sure is that if the cable isn't properly made - and some aren't -  it can negatively affect results.

Blue Jeans cables are very well made, even better in that sense than some more expensive cables.

So at the very least  you have confidence that your cable isn't a negative factor the sound of your setup.

In addition, I've found their customer service to be exemplary. They dispatch your order almost immediately. And they once mistakenly sent me a set shorter than what I ordered. I emailed them about the mistake and they immediately wrote back apologizing, saying that a correct set was being sent, and even sent a prepaid envelope so I could return the mistaken set to them.

Frank is very, very not into fancy/expensive cables.  (He used to bring a rope to shows just to "show" folks what he was using for speaker cable.)  Us old school folks have a hard time spending $$$ on signal cabling or accessories in general.  Blue Jean is just one brand that simply sells well recognized DIY interconnect/speaker cable/power cord recipes.  I've been ordering my signal cabling from Scott Endler (good quality, affordable, and every order can be customized).

I use BJC's but have recently bought some Cardas Parsec's and prefer the sound.  There is less sibilance and a slightly warmer sound.  But you can't go wrong with the BJC's.

You will love the 600R.

I have BJC in my system and refuse to spend more. They are amazing unless you are independently wealthy and feel like experimenting with what may or may not be snake oil.

I have had this theory for quite some time:

Advice from Frank Van Alstine is great advice.

Set *baseline* with what you've been advised. Go from there. :thumb:

Have fun,

Blue Jeans cable is all I use. I have their analog, digital and networking cable in use. If it's good enough for the pros and Frank, it's good enough for me.
