LG HDTV digital optical output
« on: 30 Apr 2014, 12:48 am »
I have LG HDTV LG 55LN5100 with optical output, when I connected it to Emotiva XDA-1 DAC optical input, I am unable to get any sound at all.  I think it is related to PCM signal, anybody has any idea to get it to work?
Thanks!

You're coming out of your TV into your DAC?

Does it happen with all programs or just with some? Per the manual for that tv set :

Audio with ACP (Audio Copy Protection) function may block digital audio output.

If it's with ALL programs and you see red light coming out the back of the optical cable end you connect to the emotiva DAC, I would think that perhaps somethings not right at the emotiva end.  Maybe your switched to the wrong optical input (i.e. 1 vs 2 or vice versa).

If no red light is coming out of the optical cable at the emotiva dac end, then something's wrong at the tv end.

Does the emotiva display the sample rate (e.g. 44.1 or 48) when it receives a signal?  This would be one way to know if the emotiva is getting the signal.

The external DAC can only decode 2 channel PCM and it may be the TV's digital sound output is set to AUTO which would pass through the normal (undecodable by the DAC) 5.1 Dolby sound.

Go to the on-screen menu and check that Sound Out is set to External Speaker and that Digital Sound Out is set to PCM
