Minimun space behind A/V 2 ?
« on: 5 Sep 2004, 10:55 pm »
Hi, I'm debating on the center speaker selection either AV2 or AV3S, the way it will be instaled it  will have two or three inches of space behind it to the wall.

Are those two or three inches enough for the AV2 BR port to "breath" or will I be better with a AV3S ?

I will preffer the AV2 as center but I want to be sure that  will wor correctly.

That is not enough room.

6" is about the minimal and even at that there will be some added gain from the port coupling with the wall.

A foot or more and not surrounded by shelves in an entertainment system is preferred.

Both speakers sound exactly the same. One is 8 ohms. One is 4 ohms. One starts an earlier roll off and has a shallow slope while one extends flatter a little longer and falls more rapidly.

Rigth, and what abt the AV2 front ported ? (I saw it somewhere but don'r remember where)

Actually I don't know whether a closed or vented design will be more suited for center duties if the center is going to carry mainly voice.

Before the design of the new A/V-3S there was a front ported version of the A/V-2 to be used in applications that dictated placing it in an entertainment system of some kind.

There was a slight amount of audible port noise with this design though.

I personally favor the A/V-3S design, and find its coverage range to be fine, meaning I do not miss the slightly more extended bottom end of the ported A/V-2 when used for center channel duty.
