Ext hard drive question
« on: 23 Feb 2014, 08:09 pm »
Hello all
I just bought a 4tb hard drive for my first flac rips. It has a regular USB port for putting it into my DAC , currently I am using an Oppo BDP 105. My question is whether using the normal USB plug will be ok as I thought I needed to use the square looking usb 2.0 for the hard drive files. Thx pete

Hi Pete, the standard USB port is what you need.  The square USB port would be used as a direct DAC input if you were using an outside source to play the files such as a PC running JRiver and the like.  The way you are connected you will play the files through Oppo's interface.

Best,

Pete, I use an external HD for some music and also use the OPPO 105. I use a male A USB from my computer to the rear of the 105 with a male B USB. The male B looks somewhat square and that's what the OPPO needs on the USB audio input. If you are using Windows you must download the USB driver from the OPPO website.   jw

Ok thanks for the replies. Since I am not using a PC into the Oppo, then the standard USB out will be the correct way to use the hard drive into the Oppo.  I hooked it up this way initially to test my test samples and my 3 samples ripped without issue. Oh but one.

Using DVD audio extractor the songs in a file were alphabetical not as the album ordered so how do I fix that?  Thx again
