Can someone explain the purpose of a Linn Akurate, correct me if I'm wrong and I may well be. It streams content from the web? It receives audio data from an NAS and converts it from digital to analogue? If so then why is its set up so overcomplicated. I believe an NAS needs a computer or something like the Linn to view the files and retrieve them for playing. But if that is all that's wanted and not content from the net then it seems the Linn cannot work without an internet connection. Can someone explain in laymans terms.

Quote
■Plays digital music over a standard Ethernet network
■Streams internet radio, podcasts and 'listen again' broadcasts
■Decodes FLAC, WAV, Apple Lossless (ALAC), MP3, WMA, AIFF, AAC and OGG audio formats with up to 24-bit 192 kHz native sample rate
■Plays computer audio via Linn Songcast app e.g. iTunes, YouTube, Spotify, BBC iPlayer
■Songcast support allows synchronised playback of audio around the home
■Balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) outputs
■Linn Dynamik Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS)
■Precision-engineered enclosure offers exceptional acoustic properties
■Compatible with UPnP™ media servers and UPnP™ AV 1.0 control points

Looks like it will both playback internet streams and local network data.
You would not need an internet connection for it to playback from a local network, but you still need the local network to get data onto it and to control it with a device.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, is your reply based on Linn knowledge as like you I would say an internet connection would not be required for connection to an NAS on a local network but my friend who owns a Linn Akurate doesn't agree and cannot get it work on a wireless router not connected to the internet. We are exhibiting at a hifi show and ideally would like to use the Akurate with my horn system.

Unfortunatly no direct knowledge on the Akurate.
I do have a sneaky DS at the shop that I am going to mess around with this weekend.

I cannot see why an internet connection would be mandatory, although that does not mean that it will work without internet.

I will do more digging and if I can find a solution will post back.

Have you tried using the Linn Kinsky app?

the akurate belongs to a friend, we were planning to use it when we exhibit at a hifi show in March. It works with his router but he has been trying to run it with the NAS without internet connection. Not sure what he has tried, songcast whatever that is, but didn't work.
