I would be interested to hear of options for pay and for free, and guidance around quality of video.

I use a streaming device (hacked Android box) that provides free access to tons of sporting events (NFL, NBA, NHL, UFC etc) but the quality is low (480, and on a 60 plasma that is not good).

There are tons of movies and tv episodes on it at 720p, I can live with that.

This is the first time I've watched Aero for a big game and so far ... not so good. Lots O buffering. I have it on lowest quality.

Any suggestions?

Here is a good article on what is available out there - http://hackerspace.lifehacker.com/sports-streaming-services-are-they-worth-it-1371981235/1373747592/@whitsongordon

Be careful as with some of the packages mlb/nhl/mls of the blackout rule. Most of your local teams will fall into that catagory and then you will be disappointed. There are ways around it(VPN Clients).

Another example is I am a Green Bay Packers fan but moved away in 2009. So too catch the games locally would involve going to a bar/buying a sports package through cable service . So I have a slingbox at my parents house and watch the games through that. Quality is really good as well.

I also have the MLS package for watching the Portland Timbers as most games are not televised locally. Plus I can watch other random games when I have time. Also the MLS feed has always been HD quality on my end.

As I noted in another thread, I'm going to try the Roku box with add-ons.  I bought one box but have not gotten to hook it up just yet (still in process of moving).  I've not ever had cable do to the cost of it.  I have used ESPN3 with my current cable provider but apparently the new one does not support it.  Here's interesting math on the cost of cable - http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cable-tv-retire-early-171451187.html
