Since completing the basement where all my gear now resides, I am finding that many of my newer components are smaller than standard. I have a media closet, and inside it sits an old Flexy I built in the mid 90's.
I have decided to build up a smaller format Flexy, to house the smaller components. It will sit next to the main Flexy, and will be close enough to the dedicated outlets to continue to leverage those.
I have a dedicated netbook with HD, a WD Live plus with HD, a Pogoplug hacked running LMS with usb-spdif converter, an Android tv box hacked with Linux for TV streaming, and am looking forward to picking up a USB DAC (likely Schiit Modi or other smaller format device), so I think it worth it to build a smaller Flexy.
The last one I built I used 3/4 threaded rod and hardware, and the shelves are 24x16 made of 2x6 pine laminated together.
This smaller format one will use 1/2 threaded rod and hardware, and the shelves will be 15x12 made of 1 inch Baltic Birch. Still sorting out total number of levels, but will have 8 shelves - could turn into a 30x12 double Flexy, we will see.
Pics in time, ideas appreciated!
