Hifiman HE400 Briefing

Even with a 37ºC sun and 18UV I have pickup my HE400 today at the post office.
So I glad I can say there is no stones or tuna can inside the box.

The paint is the usual dark blue but the drivers arc holders are no more the chromed version, but a dark gray anodized;
The drivers cans are non magnetic so I would think it is Aluninium.
I will inform a briefing test shortly.

Just out of the box with a cheap Radeon mainboard PC output Iam impressed with the sound quality.
At these same conditions my others vintage phones are awfull in every item and unlistenable.
After listening an hour of Barbara Dannerlein, ambient music and chinese vocal jazz my initial impressions are very positive:
The bass are firm, strong, articulated and velvety, how a bass string are hit are audible as a individual sound, not how a cloud of notes.
The midbass also good with a feeling of tube harmonics or Alnico.
The treble are a doubt to me, I not confident to say anything due short listening experience so far, but the HD650 may be sweeter, but I may wrong.

Can be listening a room ambience or studio effects if it is the case.
Soundstage are big, but not huge, I would say it is aroud 1 metre large with the Beyound the Portal CD , not inside the head as some phones.

This soundstage are located over the height of the forehead up, not in the mouth area nose.
Image are good, the instruments can be followed easily, the bass guitar and drums can be listened as various musical notes, not one note bass.
The overall sound is definitely planar with a nice signature of harmonics, it reminds me of the Carver Amazing not Maggie or ML, which are good.

Phones weight are not a prob, the confort are excellent and the ear fit all inside the round pads which are the factory fitted eco black leather and are very soft and confortable, the individual drivers cables are 3 metres, its too long for HiFi use.
The drivers connectors deserve care though.

It is a great value, a bargain at just $299 at even at the regular price.
The manual inform the breakin are 150 hours but not in loud SPL.
I could not listen more these days due the high temperatures we are suffering due constant chem trails attacks:

I still think that the HE400 it's a great buy even after the release of the new models at CES. I'm sure you will love it, specially when paired with a better source and amplification.  :thumb:

Now with 2 hours breakin Iam unhappy with the treble, that are short.
Soundstage varies greatly, pop music CDs soundstage is rather small.
I also would like more detail.

Could this be due Iam using a PC output??:

PC output could be a cause.  But a two hour break in is not enough time.  Give them at least 50 hours.

I had the HE500 and it didn't start to sound decent until after 50 hours.

Plus, I don't think PC output will do it justice.

Hi FULLRANGMAN and all Audio Circle members.
Look as if you have to be patient and at the same time,
start looking for a good headphone amplifier to match
with your excellent HE400.
A few days ago, I've tried my Sennheiser HD-570 on my laptop
and the sound was surprisingly good for a laptop,
but far from being excellent.
I don't want to try my Sennheiser HD-650 on the laptop,
because I am sure I will be very disappointed.
I will wait for my Bottlehead Crack.

Now with 4 hours breakin the soundstage are better:
-On the same poprock CDs the soundstage are larger and on the same tracks of these CDs on You tube the soundstage are even larger.
-The midrange and treble are the same, no change, they are low in spl, so the midbass and bass rule the performance, which may be useful with some tracks:
