Performance upgraded X-LS Classic
« on: 1 Jan 2014, 04:44 pm »
I have built a number of X-LS Encores with the performance upgrades (Sonicaps, Mills, No-Rez) as well as have  other Audio Circle members. These upgrades definitely raise the performance level of the X-LS Encores. My question is has anyone tried these performance upgrades on a pair of X-LS Classics?  If so, does it make a noticeable improvement in performance and is the improved performance worth the added cost of the upgrades?

I've added no rez, erse caps and link resistors to the classic xls and while it was better than it's factory form, it was still a more subdued and warmer speaker than the encore version.  The encore tweeter has a much better high frequency response.

I kind of figured that. So the upgrades basically improve the performance of the Classic X-LS, but the overall characteristic of sounding subdued and warm remains the same. I agree that the high frequency response of the X-LS Encore with the Peerless tweeter is excellent especially with the performance upgrades.
Thanks for answering my question.

The best upgrade for the classic version is to upgrade it to the Encore version.

The tweeter and the crossover can be swapped out. I have an Encore tweeter with a bigger face plate that allows them to drop into the classic tweeter hole.
