Yes, like, just about anything else is better.  For example, the Sony MDR 7506 is a much more balanced headphone, not expensive, and has been a reference for a long time.

I for one will not be looking to Forbes' for advice to guide my headphone purchases. But then I just got HD650s a few months ago so I'm not in "shopping" mode. Maybe later next year I'll be looking to add a different "flavor" to the collection. Beats will not be on the list btw.
