Denon AVR5800 "the beast" AV Receiver $500
« on: 7 Aug 2012, 11:13 am »
Unit was rack mounted from new. It was recently replaced by a new unit. I do not have the remote as the receiver was controlled via RS232 and the remote was discarded. Standard Denon remotes will control most functions OK. I have no box or packaging and do not really wish to ship this (it is VERY heavy).

Also, the display is slightly faded with some digits brighter than others. This is probably due to the fact the unit was powered on for its entire lifespan, however this is a mixed blessing in that the smoothing caps stayed in good shape as a result.

I will add some photos in a day or two.

I am in Cary, NC.

If you know what this is and what it can do, I am sure we'll be talking.

I take Paypal and I do not charge a fee to do so.

Bump... I am surprised that I have had no interest at all. How about $300 ??? You can pickup the remote on ebay and you have what was once a state of the art receiver with HUGE power capability for a song. I have tried the unit with Maggie 1.5 and 1.6 speakers and it has a lot of drive.

Raindance,
What are the dimensions of the unit W, H, D?  How much does it weigh?  Is it able to go into a so-so ventilated cabinet with quite a bit of room without causing too much heat?   How old is it?  Could be very interested.  What is the continuous output of the receiver per channel?  Does it have 5 or 7 speaker capability?  Does it have 1 or 2 subwoofer outputs?  So many questions, so little time.

Thanks for your time and answers,
Bob

The Internet Bob.. The internet. :)  everything you can ever want to know about a 5800 lives there including user testimonials, reviews, pics, maybe even a user and service manual  etc.   Google Denon AVR5800.  It's a killer unit. I have one that I use from time to time just to try out speakers , I even have the Remote and the RF Cradle, which by the way is model RC8000 . Like Raindance said, you can find one on that auction site.   A Harmony remote can also control the unit although visually it lacks that over the top "our remote is  cooler than your's "Apparently Denon was targeting Marantz and Philips' Design ethos.

Great unit, still meets 5.1 standards (and has 7 channels of amplification)  with a Blu Ray player you're able to do the latest and greatest multi-channel formats.   Heck, an Oppo 103 or 105 even has 2 extra HDMI inputs so you can use that for HDMI switching.

GLWTS Raindance.  great unit.   here's a shot under the hood  ( my 5800 ) for the  audio voyeurs:
