FWIW I buy the batteries for my workplace from McMaster-Carr. We use a lot of batteries and although we use all sizes, AA account for almost half. Up until a couple of years ago they were all Duracell, now they are mostly Energizers with "C" and "D" being Ray-o-vacs. Maybe they knew something.
