Problem With MY Philips SACD1000 DVD Playing
« on: 3 Aug 2004, 12:50 pm »
I have had my Philips SACD1000 for about a year and 1/2.  It has been a great unit up to this point.  It is built like a tank and sounds awesome with CDs and SACDs (It should for a unit that cost $1999 when it first came out).

I have started having issues while watching DVDs.  Periodically it freezes in movies multiple times (not the once that most discs do with a 1/4 second) for 2-5 seconds and then either continues or skips ahead a few minutes.  It originally only did this when I would fast forward or rewind through movies, now it does it all the time.

Sunday it completely froze up in a movie and when I started monkeying with it it the unit wouldn't even completely come back on (I could here it spinning up but it wouldn't fully power up).  I disconnected the power cord in the back tapped it a few times (lightly) and it now works as before (with the movie skips).  I am planning on taking it back to Tweeters to have them send it in. I forgot to send in the warranty card to Philips (they wanted it in 10 days Ooops!).  I do have the original receipt.

Has Anyone else had this issue?  I want them to fix this unit.  I am not interested in any other Philips player as they appear to not have the same performance as this brute!

Thanks,
Mark

Count yourself lucky.  Yours lasted a lot longer than most peoples did.  That player has some notorious reliablity problem, and I can't ever remember talking to anyone that's owned one for a long time that hasn't had a problem with it.

You might inquire in the APL forum down the page.  Alex is an undisputed expert on this player and can probably help you out.
