In-home camera remotely controlled - How to?
« on: 8 Jan 2013, 05:21 pm »
I would like to be able to check-in on a pet while away from home.  Does anyone know how one could view and control a camera from outside the home via a web address?

I just bought and set this up.

http://foscam.us/products/foscam-fi9821w-megapixel-wireless-ip-camera.html

very inexpensive and works great.  you can control it via any device with a web browser and it has night mode that works amazingly well.

Please let me know how this works if you go through with it.  I've always wondered my little guys really do during the day.

I'm sure it's mostly this   but I'd like to think they  :tempted: (play) when we're not home.

Damn that works really well.  So that's what you get for $160?  Easy to setup?

Sorry, I posted the wrong link initially.  This is the 8910 (older model) that you can get for about $75 off their site.  Use coupon code NEWYEAR for any of the cameras.  the setup is very easy, you can see a bunch of videos here:

Thanks for the demo. That works really well! I've always been interested in a weather protected IR version for my lake house and dock.

the night mode works great.  if you want to check it out later you can see how well it works in my garage at night (about 1200 sq ft).

I purchased the 8910 today.  There are well done comparisons between the different models done on YouTube for those interested.

Thanks for the hookup vortrex.

I use a bunch of these around the house. No computer is required, even for setup (although you can always use one). They are accessible via the iSecurity+ app (iOS or Android), and are considered smart-phone accessories. Optional cloud services are available (motion/movement alert, recording, etc.) if interested.

Interesting.  What would be the advantage of these over the other that's posted?

it seems stationary and not remote controlled?  also, some of the other features like motion detection appear to be extra $ add-ons.

I ordered a promotional camera deal from Amazon before Christmas - a HooToo® HT-IP212 Outdoor Wireless Network Surveillance IP Camera, M-JPEG Video Format, 1/4" CMOS Sensor, Viewing Angle at 60°, 24 IR Illum

I got this for $70   --  it turns out to be Foscam F189xx compatible

I finally got around to testing it out and bought the Blue Iris camera software ($50 for up to 64 cameras!)

I plugged in an ethernet cable between it and my ethernet switch, and connected the power.

This is a wireless or wired ethernet camera, so far I am just using wired ethernet. It is fixed, not PanTiltZoom. resolution is 640x480, decent color picture.

It comes with software, I want to use Blue Iris which has lots of support and future updates, and works with many cameras. It works great with the Blue Iris software which has many options.

I had to let my router give it an IP, and then look at the router software to see its IP address, then plug that in in the Blue Iris software. Later I will set up static IPs for my cams and other more detailed things.

I was able to easily trigger an event (me walking across the frame) which sent me an email with images.

I plan to set up several cams around my house, mostly outdoors in the front and to see what the dogs are up to.

The camera has a login ID required to use it, and a reset switch.

Next I will get another outdoor cam that is Pan Tilt Zoom.
