subwoofer is "pulsing"
« on: 2 Nov 2013, 03:31 pm »
I have a 10 plus yr. old Onix ULW 10" sub hooked up in a home theater configuration that has recently started, the best way I can describe, "pulsing". This occurs any time the power is on, regardless of whether connected to receiver, wall outlet change, cross-over setting, etc.  It just needs to be powered on, plugged in to the wall and the driver pushes in and out at a regular, quick pace w/ a thumping noise.  Any ideas on what's causing this (or is it just cooked/done?) Thanks for any help.  Steve

I had a Phase Technology Octave 1.0 that was 16 years old and exhibited similar symptoms.  I gave it to a friend a couple of years back as he had the same sub and he could have the option of using it for spare parts or getting it repaired.  He told me he got it repaired (I didn't pay a whole bunch of attention to what it was) and it was a bit less than $100 including labor.  So it couldn't have been a real expensive part.  I did not have the symptoms quite as bad as your but it was of a similar nature.

Don't know what the problem is, but plate amps aren't usually expensive to repair if not replace. I'd remove it from the sub and take it to the local reputable electronics repair shop.
