« on: 19 Jan 2016, 04:23 pm »
For sale is a Van Alstine AVA Fet Valve 550 Ultra. This monster puts out 250W into 8 and double into 4 ohms. Authoritative bass and sweet tube-like mids thanks to the pair of 12AT7 valves in the driver stage. Operationally and functionally perfect. No blemishes whatsoever.

Unit will ship in a double box with spray foam between each box . Shipping weight is approx 50lbs from 14303. Buyer pays shipping.

Asking $1100

This appears to be a very nice example of this vintage (2008) Fet Valve Ultra 550 amplifier.

It does have multiple regulated power supplies.  It has separate regulated power supplies for each 12V tube heater, and for each tube plate and each small signal mosfet on the audio boards.

It does not have the regulated output transistor power supplies of current production Fet Valve amplifiers.

$1100 is a fair price assuming good cosmetics and electrical performance.

Seller please make sure the nut on the big power transformer hold down hardware is tight before shipping!  It can work its way loose after years of use.

Cool.  Thanks for the comments Frank.  Yes this unit is cosmetically and operationally perfect - not a scratch on it and it powers my Salk HT-3's with authority.

I had one of these in my system for a while. I REALLY liked it. Never strident. Bass was best I've ever had in my system. Never ran out of juice driving 87db speakers in large-ish room, even when playing Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" at hefty volume. Very nice amp. :thumb:
