B135 Speakers for Small Room
« on: 24 Jul 2013, 07:29 pm »
I am in the process of putting together a audio system for my home office.  I have acquired a B135, BDA-1, and BDP-1.  I am dealing with a less than desirable room at 11'X11' with a 9' ceiling height.  I am leaning towards a used pair of B&W 805S or 805D.  My max budget for speakers is about $4000 but I would prefer to stay closer to $2000.  I am already over budget on this project.  I did a search and found little.  If I am missing something I apologize, I am new to this forum and Bryston products as well.  I would appreciate any suggestions on speakers for this system.  I also live in a rural area and do not have the option to demo or do any in-store listening.  Thank you in advance.

I used to have a pair of B&W 805S speakers. I bought them in 2006 when I believe they listed for about $3,500. I used them for about three years. The 805S doesn't have diamond tweeters and are no longer manufactured. The 805D has the diamond tweeters, are still in production and are more expensive, but will sound better. I thought the 805S was a great bookshelf speaker. I ran them with a 100-watt Arcam integrated amp. I currently have 803Ds on my Bryston system. I really like the B&W sound. Very refined, IMO.

Hi,
Since you have Bryston elcetronics, you should consider Bryston speakers like the Mini or Middle T which cost are just in your budget.  When you listen to them I'm sure you will like them.

Try the PMC twenty.23 or PMC twenty.24.

In this price range, these are the best speakers I have ever heard.

Best Regards,

I looked at the Mini T and something just did not do it for me.  It might be the no more than the looks.  One thing that I really like about the B&W is that they seem to hold their value pretty will.  I really do like the looks of the PMC Twenty.23 and .24.

The Reference 3A speakers are very good sounding and work well in smaller rooms and are easy to drive with a B135 integrated amp.

You can't go wrong with ProAc speakers, they mate very well with Bryston gear:

For a small room, you should have a look at either the ProAc Response D1, D Two or even the D18.  These models can produce some very nice, deep bass in a small room.

I have on order their new ProAc Response D30R floorstanding speaker which I will be using with the Bryston 4B-SST2 power amp.

The Dynaudio Focus 160 is a great speaker for medium to small rooms.  It's only drawback is that you don't want to try and drive it with a 50W amplifier, but the B135 SST² would be an excellent match.
