Shipping Question
« on: 5 Jul 2013, 08:52 pm »
Looking for opinions / experiences on shipping the heavier amps -- 14, 28 etc.

Do you find that the original packaging alone is sufficient?  The original box for my 14b took quite a bit of damage on its journey from Bryston to the dealer.  I would not trust it to protect the amp at this point.

As I see it, my options are:
1. purchase a new box from Bryston (no guarantee that it doesn't get trashed on the way here)
2. double box. (haven't had any luck finding an appropriate sized box for this)
3. strap the original box to a small pallet

Would appreciate hearing others experiences in shipping the large heavy amps.  Is Fedex preferred to UPS for this?

Thanks!
Greg

Hi
I just bought an Emotiva XPR-2 it is heavy at 120 lbs packed and 100lbs unpacked. It came with Fedex in a double box .It is my opinion that these boxes are good for one use,I wouldn't trust mine for a second shipping. If you are shipping to Bryston they will pack it in a new box for return and will charge for it. At least they did with me when I sent my preamp last year. The box was about 40-50 dollars if I recall.
Option three ,strapping to wooden pallet sounds like a good idea to me.
