I read that there's some concern that they might run out of book before the show ends.  Apparently it took him six years to write one of them, and he hasn't decided how many books remain.  It could be that they hit season 7 and don't have an ending yet.  Assuming the series runs that long- a good bet though unless the popularity drops off.  There are some devoted fans but his penchant for killing off the bulk of the important characters probably does cost some viewership.

He's a notoriously slow writer and getting slower!  Between the TV show taking up a lion's share of his time AND his health (have you ever seen a photo?  he's morbidly obese!), there's justifiable concern as to whether he'll even finish the series.  Add that to the fact that books 1-3 were written so long ago, IMO he may have written his best work already as 4 & 5 are almost universally regarded as inferior.

At least so much is already written that someone else could probably finish the TV show if he's unable to by that time.  Presumably there's some kind of contractual thing set up for that.

My problem with the ending is that there was no one else I liked.  They killed off the last person I thought was interesting.

All my fav characters are gone now. If you read the books, the next season will be interesting. Some new characters are coming.
