It is still one of the best one box players; spinning CD, it's on par with my Wadia 861SE (sold recently); playing SACDs, it's in another league and beats the Wadia hand down. At the asking price, it's a steal.
The SA-1 is in perfect working condition except the display issue described below. Cosmetically, there's 3/4 inch mark to the right of the display (visible in one of the photos). There's also some marks at the bottom (due to being sent in for service).
Here is little history: After owning the player for about 3 years, it developed an issue with reading some SACD discs (can't read disc - TOC error) and the fluorescent display, sometimes, visible only after playing 3-4 songs (both are common issues for Marantz SA-1 when it first came to market). It was sent to and serviced by Service Wide Tech (a Marantz authorized service center at the time) for both the laser and the display issue. Since it's been back at the end of 2005, there's zero disc (CD or SACD) reading problem.
The display issue comes back after a year but since it's not affected the player's operation and I also turn it off most of the time, it's never bothered me to get the display fix again.
Bonus: I will include one working new laser head which has been put in and tested in my SA-1.
Included with the SA-1 SACD player sale: remote control, original user manual, generic power cable, a new spared laser head, and an electronic copy of the service manual.
