i heard from one of the owner that even with tube roll, he finds the mapletree 2a to be in lean and analytical
First time I've ever heard that type of complaint. I suspect some other issue(s) involved there.
When I used mine with an SS amp (hybrid actually, MOSFET outputs), I used a pair of NOS Sylvania 6SN7GTA (from late 1940's I believe, $85). Added some drive and nice tube flavor to the mix. Also replaced stock rectifier tube with a NOS Raytheon JAN-CRP 6X5WGT. Far from lean/analytical.
When I switched to all-tube power amps, I swapped the Sylvanias out - too much tubiness - and inserted a pair os NOS TungSol 12SN7 gray T-plates ($35) for a cleaner, clearer presentation. But still not lean/analytical by any means.
I would not let one (of so many - check archives) opinion dissuade its consideration.
