POWER SUPPLY-SMPS TO Transformer
« on: 5 Jun 2013, 02:19 pm »
Hi,
I know many times this topic  has been discussed before SMPS vs Transformer supply. I have this Rane RPM 44 digital processor with SMPS on board. I should not complain since there is no audible noise and it sounds better than my squeezebox DAC out. But there is this fan which with casing causes some audible noise.
I am wondering if someone can help me figure what those power supply wires are. Red and yellow measures 14.75 VDC with reference to ground ( white) and this blue wire is confusing me with an output of +5.1VDCwrf to ground. Why do they need two blue wires for same voltage.
I do not know if this is a well designed powersupply or not. Do you think changing over to a transformer powersupply will help by any means?
The reason why I want to change it is to get rid of the fan on casing that with a 4.7CFM powerflow cools this SMPS ( so far  biggest heat generator in cabinet)
