  • Came for the value, stayed for the drama
Now streaming an excellent profile of ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. If you think that the ukulele is not a serious instrument, this documentary will get your mind right. Not only is Jake a superb musician, he is also an outstanding human being.

Reports are that it only streams in the US. A DVD is available.

Saw it on PBS last night. "Life on Four Strings". Amazing stuff. He is to the uke what Bela Fleck is to the banjo. Well worth the watch if you have the chance.   8)

I caught this special too and thought it was great. I've seen him a couple times at a very small local venue and he is always honest, interactive, and original, despite the many, many nights he does on the road.

Saw the special, and was lucky enough to see Jake 3 times over the last number of years. Met him after the last show. A very solid, humble, and appreciative young man in real life. And a phenomenal uke player. I remarked that I was so happy with how well recorded his CDs are (they are!) and he seemed so pleased to hear it (and seemed to understand why someone would appreciate it in turn).
