Although I have been lurking for a while and enjoying reading many of the threads, I've finally got round to registering and this is my first post.
Based in the UK (South Oxfordshire) and a couple of year's ago I discovered Bryston. I'd upgraded from an Audiolab pre-power combination to a SP1.7 and 9B ST (now upgraded by PMC to SST spec).
Until end of last year I was using this combo to drive a Proac Response 1.5 front speakers in bi-amp configuration and also a matching response centre speaker.
We're currently renovating our main lounge and I'm going to be installing a discrete home cinema. I have purchased 3 PMC Wafer 2 speakers which I was going to use for the 3 front channels, but despite them being good, I don't think they are quite as good as dedicated floorstanders.
I know that there might be (and has been) plenty of debate about whether Bryston and Proac are a marriage made in heaven or a nightmare combination. Personally I have found the system to be incredibly musical, and a big step up from the Audiolab amps.
Ultimately I want to upgrade my front speakers and did hear some OB1i's which were lovely.
I gather that the amps in the 9B are same spec as in 3B. I've not heard the 4B or upwards ranges but gather they are better. So my question is that given my current set up, would I get better performance from bi-amping using 4 channels of the 9B, or just using a single 4B to power my Proacs.
And then if I do upgrade my fronts to OB1 or perhaps PB1's if funds allow, how do PMC speakers respond to being run by 1, 2 or 3 amps?
Hope this makes sense and that I can gain some wisdom from the huge amount of experience on this forum
