I built LS-9's and fought some room issues too. They have a BIG powerfull bottom end. I got the best bass with Krell's. I built Super V's next. different, less room pressure and quicker deeper bass. But you loose some of the "magic" (soundage width) that the neo 8's can cast in a big line source.
I owned the Montana KAS series 1 and WAS series 1 back in the late 90's thru 2005. Both amazing, but expensive compared to the LS-9. They also like bigger rooms. They have a lot of output in a wide dispersion pattern. Room modes (side wall reflections) can come to life with out a bit of space or room treatment.
Danny's Serenity 7 would be a safe bet for an upgrade. adjustable servo bass and neo drivers up top.

I thought they were very good at RMAF. But the Price and system complexity starts climbing at that level
