Let me preface this by saying that I am not a Linn 'fanboy' by any stretch, but...

I got to say, I am sure finding it hard to justify getting rid of the Linn...

The reliability of a Linn TT is no better or worse than any other TT. Just because a few people here had problems with them, doesn't mean they are problematic on the whole.

As far as the Linn being 'overpriced and overrated', even if this was true... who cares? You are not shopping for a new Linn, you already own one that probably only needs some minor repair. Yes, I agree that the same money that would buy a new Linn could be better spent on another brand, but you already have a great TT that only needs repair.

Then there are upgrades that can even make it sound better, for still less than a new TT.

This company sells a very nice upgrade kit for Linn for about $350 US.

The guy in Florida who refurbs old Quads used to have a running ad on Audiogon.  Definitely worth an Agon search and/of inquiry.

In the meantime, Rega's RS1s or RS3s would be good to look into.

Simoon makes very good points regarding the LP12.

David & Alma Wilson at Accent are easily the best people in the business that I've ever met.  They run a Hifi shop the way it should be run - all about making sure the customer gets exactly what he/she wants, before and after the sale.

Accent is the Naim/Rega/Linn dealer I was talking about in this thread.  I miss 2 things from Westchester - Accent on Music and Whole Foods.

Great minds think alike.  Now, where did I lose mine?... If anyone wants to see first-rate Quad restoration, see: quadesl.nl, Pictures of a quad esl full refurbishment.  $2800 plus shipping, might be cheaper to move to Amsterdam.   There is a guy in N.E. Indiana, only a few hours away, who does a basic rebuild of quads for $1500. Definitely considering RS1 or 3s for the all Rega system.  I hear nothing but good things from those who have taken the Rega plunge and have enjoyed my current toys.  High on the mountain top I see the Linn with an Ekos Se, Lingo 3, suitable cart., restored Quads, maybe Quad tube monoblocks.  For now, used Lingo, cheaper cart.  and the Rega system.  Thanks for the info and recommendations.  My most pressing question for now is:  What is Rega doing in terms of a new tuner design to match the Brio-R.  I'm jonesing for a tuner, but would love to know if I should just wait for the new model.  Peace.

I posted this before, but it probably got buried in my rambling...

I'd bet it would take some time, as they're reportedly updating other stuff - Mira and Saturn in particular.  Tuners don't sell very well, so I'd imagine its the bottom of the list to get to market.

Pink Fish media has a bunch of UK guys who have great Rega connections.  I'd post over there.  They were very helpful when I asked about the DAC, which was about 9 months or so before it was announced.  A guy named Hifi Dave knows his Rega stuff.

If there's nothing coming soon enough, maybe look into the Pro-Ject Tuner Box.  Small silver chassis and remote control.  No idea how it sounds.

Thanks, Stu.  I'll check pinkfish.  There is a Tandberg 3011A at a local dealer for $200 and several options for a Radio three.  If I can find out Rega's plans I'll know which way to go.  I could just replace the power switch on my Luxman T-115, if I could find a new switch.  Thank you for the heads up.  Peace.

Update:  I bought the Tandberg at my nearest shop.  Seemed to be a good deal, was checked out and restored to factory  specs.  It's not silver, Rega, and doesn't respond to remote button-pushing.  The sound is great for the money:  separation and musicality better than any tuner I've ever heard.  I can only imagine what it's big brother sounds like.  I just ordered Klotz AC110 for making all new interconnects and am shopping for a pair of HD 650's.  Good sound is fun and so is playing with a tuning knob and meters after all these years! 8)
