Peachtree 220 VS Vincent SA-331
« on: 4 Apr 2013, 02:38 pm »
Getting ready to buy a power amp and was comparing these 2 models. One is class A/A-B and the other Class D. Im just confused on which would be the better sounding amp and have no way to test either prior to buying.

As always, amp-speaker matching is key. What speakers are you using?

Both are well-regarded, so don't think you'd go wrong with either (as long as both seem to be good matches with your speakers on paper).

And I am also confused why you wouldn't be able to audition both. Are you not in the US?

Audio Advisor carries the Vincent and the Peachtree. They have a solid 30-day return policy (as does Music Direct, though they don't carry Vincent).

Also, since Audio Advisor carries both, maybe you should call and ask their opinion.

Try to audition Rogue Sphinx too in that price category.  Very happy with mine.

Looks like the OP is looking for just an amp, not an integrated.

But yes, I have heard great things about the Sphinx. I listened to it briefly in an audio store here in Chicago, but can only say that it sounded good with the Sonus Fabor monitors it was hooked up to. Not being familiar with the speakers makes it tough to evaluate an amp, unless you are switching out different amps.

I am confused. You just listed a Peachtree 220 for sale? What happened to "I have no way to test either prior to buying?

Confusion aside, I am a big fan of Rogue products. My Stereo 90 is at Rogue right now getting the Super Magnum upgrade.

If you are getting a Rogue, I would recommend getting a model that can use the KT120 output tubes. This will require their less expensive amps get the upgrade to Magnum status. Other, more expensive Rogue amps (like my Stereo 90) can run KT120s in stock form.

I know its confusing, I do own the peachtree and mispoke earlier, I meant to say I have no way to compare the peachtree 220 with the Vincent as there are no local dealers where I live and I dont wanna buy one just to send it back if I dont like it.

Initially the plan was to sell the peachtree and buy the vincent but I think im gonna go with Rogue as they seem to have a big following. I was gonna go with the latest cronus integrated with the KT-120s.

This is likely to end up being a lateral move, is there something you are unhappy with? Just want to try new things?

Yeah I recently bought a turntable and got into Vinyl, the Cronus has one built in and that seemed like a nice way to go.
