Marvel Mystery Oil
« on: 28 May 2013, 09:51 pm »
My 2006 Buell Useless developed a bit of valve clatter last Winter at around 56,000 miles, the wretched hunka crap.
I recently read a post here about Marvel Mystery Oil and had a can kicking around that I'd use on my ancient Sears lawnmower a few years back.
I dumped some of the MMO into a few tanks of gas in the Buell and raised the idle up around 200 RPM to increase the oil flow to the hydraulic lifters and I'll be, the clatter is back to it's normal levels (more or less).  Perhaps it dislodged a piece of carbon in the combustion chamber.
I'm getting close to 70,000 miles on the bike so with any luck, I can manage to hit my 100,000 mile goal before I have to drop the motor and do any sort of major surgery.
Thanks for reminding me about the can of Marvel Mystery Oil in the chemicals cabinet.

:thumb: The stuff is really useful for quieting down lifter clatter....my wife, who otherwise wouldn't care, generally knows what tank has the MMO and what tank doesn't when she gets in the car(s).

It makes all engines a little quieter, a little smoother.....and when my SAAB mechanic opened up the head because of blow seal at 85,000 miles....he said he'd never seen a cleaner engine in his career fixing SAAB's (nearly 20 years)

A [wealthy] buddy of mine has 12-14 cars, swears by the stuff, too.

Yip, the only "stuff" I'll pour into my vehicles is MMO, Techron by Chevron and BG products.
Lots of snake oil out there, but I'll stand by these products.

I've heard good things about Lucas from people I trust, but have no personal experience.

Chemicals are a wonderful thing.

Interesting.  Do you guys put this in the gas tank or in the oil?

MMO serves as an additive for oil, fuel, transmission, hydraulic...etc..etc...
Pretty much everything but washer fluid, brake fluid or coolant.
