Have you done a craigslist search in your area just to see what may be available?
You can also search ebay by distance first and see what might me close.

I did, found a denon 300 for 275, someone bought it.  I life in a small town... not much to close...

I'm not sure how I got upgraded to industry participant, maybe maxcast can turn me back to normal guy.  I have a few thousand CDs but have housed my fathers set if records for years.  It's time to get in but since I am just an average Jon I don't want to spend 2000 on a TT when I have little hands of mischief

Sorry, but the more I think about this the greater the feeling I get, that this is a mistake.  You say it's time to get in, why?  It may never be a perfect time, but given your budgetary restraints, little hands of mischief, and refusal to get involved in set up, it seems like it couldn't be a worse time.

One thing record players are not, is plug n play.  Will you be able to even set tracking force?  What about all the other tweaks to make it sound right?  Is the plan to learn as you go and get your hands dirty when needed, or do you expect a factory set up or a used table w/cart to be satisfactory?  My concern here isn't competing with your few thousand CDs, it's about being able to enjoy your records.

I hope my feelings of misgivings about your vinyl playback desire at this time, are misplaced.  Prove me wrong.  I doubt if there could be more recommendations other than specific deals on the net.  NeedleDr has the Denon DP300F w/Ortofon 2M Red for $419. Get a used phono stage and you're in business.  That way you can drive over and have them check out the set up.

Good heads up.  It's a little over budget, but I think you're right.

A classic table for sure. Bomb proof (as evidenced by its popularity among DJs). The direct drive tables also have a devoted following.

The P-mount arms on those old Technics tables are nice, extremely nice considering the cost. I can't really vouch for the rest of the table, but Kevin is a straight shooter and I don't think he would lie or exaggerate. P-mount might be a good solution for someone who doesn't want to mount and align carts.  Ultimate performance would be limited, but it's limited anyway.  The 1200 deal looks good if you can swing it. To some extent you get what you pay for.

I know that B&O TT don't get much respect, but their cartridges have some real advantages, and they are always available on ebay.

Important that all functions work and that cart does not need replacement, otherwise 200 from SoundSmith.
