True, and they've paralleled caps in some of their designs. Of course, knowing Magnepan, I imagine they'd find a way to do things as cheaply as possible. :-)

I thought / read somewhere that the only thing new about the new MMG's was the crossover

If they're going quasi ribbon tech on the midrange / bass panel on the MMG, that would be pretty cool.

I have MMGs & 1.7's and there is a visible difference between the older midrange / bass panel & a QR panel.  Shining a light up to it, the former has wider copper loops, and the latter has what really appear to be ribbons - i.e. long narrower strips of some metallic material w/ grey borders.  Of course the 1.7 is all QR and it shows in the seamless look of the panel (i.e. all the narrower metallic looking strips).

So I'd say if anyone has the "new" MMG's and there is still that visible difference between one side vs the other, then it probably uses the same non-QR mid / bass panel + the QR HF panel.

I don't think it's QR. Somebody posted a picture of one naked.

The reason it isn't is that it costs more to apply the QR foil, and they didn't want to raise the price of their entry-level model.

I just bugged Wendell and the bass is wire to keep from having to do any price increases.

I was thinking about the whole cheap thing earlier today: that is a really good thing for the customers.
I'd much rather be complaining about cheap mounting feet or something than complaining about things that have been priced out of reach.  Good for them!

Steve:

I couldn't agree more.  I look at the other speakers out there and so much of the cost is making them look like expensive furniture which doesn't make them sound any better. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with aesthetics and looking good, but at the end of the day, it doesn't make them sound better, just more expensive.   That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Yep. We could have mahogany feet, but then we wouldn't have a $600 speaker that amazes everyone by being better than some speakers five times its price.

Speaking of expensive furniture, I'm still extremely pleased with my Magnestand purchase, which, considering the level of quality you get, is not expensive.

Every time I look over I'm taken in by the exotic textures of the wood, they really are gorgeous, I'm dead serious. That guy should consider doing enclosures for other types of speakers because he makes some good shwat.
