Hi,

Looking to build out my 2 channel system into a home theater configuration and need some advice.

I already have Paradigm Sig S8 and S2 V3 speakers and plan on adding a center and sub (5.1 configuration).

After consulting with a local Anthem dealer, he recommended purchasing a Anthem MRX 510 AV receiver plus an Anthem statement S5 five channel amp. When I questioned this configuration over a simpler single MRX 710 to drive the whole shebang, he responded that given my room size (about 18 by 25) I would be better off with the more muscular configuration.

Could use some views here; one of the reasons I'd like a single AV receiver is I'm trying to simplify my living room.

Secondly, my wife and I do not listen to our music and/or movies at high volume.

Is this a case of up-selling (him) an uninformed customer (me)? Or is a single receiver, even a high end one like the MRX 710, simply too tame to drive my top of the line Paradigm speakers in a medium sized living room?

Thanks!

Looks like the speakers are easy to drive at 92db for the S8 and 91db for the S2. I use an MRX-300 with Salk SongTowers, center, and surrounds and they are tad less sensitive. My room is a little smaller than yours and I haven't noticed any issues with music or movie's, though I don't have it cranked.
