OK, I'll be the first to ask.  Anyone heard "Thriller" in 24/88 and care to comment?

There is a thread on another site, and the comments are quite positive on the HDTracks downloads.

I've listened to the SACD is 88.2 via the HDMI audio de-embedder and various DACs and give it a  :thumb:

Thriller was great on redbook, and it's marginally better on SACD.  Is it worth it to get it for a normal person?  Probably not.  Is it worth it to get it if you are a crazy audiophile?  Definitely!

I found it stunning on DSD playback via the Mytek today. Studio quality sound.

Yes, agreed.  It's a great recording that sounds even better in Hirez.  But it was good to start with, so it was not a "massive" improvement in sound quality, unlike (for example) Bowie's stuff, or the Police stuff, or the Flaming Lips.  That's all I was trying to say.

Thanks guys - I only have it on vinyl, and will get the hi-rez now that I'm listening essentially exclusively to Squeezebox music.

So in your opinion, how does the DSD playback compare to tyhe PCM hires 24/88 version that the OP talks about?

Dunno, I don't have that specific 24/88 file.  I can say from experience converting other DSD files to 24-88 or even 24-172, that there's always a slight loss in quality during the conversion process.
