ClassDAudio CDA1000 Input
« on: 19 Jan 2013, 12:06 am »
I finally decided to just build my CDA1000 kit instead of selling and am not understanding one aspect of the build...probably due to me being so newbie!

My question is on the input setup...

Since this is a dual CDA 258 amplifier kit I am not understanding how to setup both amps to be able to output from a single input source.

Meaning. How do I tie the inputs together for both CDA 258's so that I can output to say two Mains and a Sub?  Is this not possible?

I've gone through the manuals online from ClassDAudio, emailed Tom(never a response) and stepped through all 176 pages of the original CDS 120watt post and just can't come up with an understanding so I thought I would ask.

There may just be some very basic on the source input side that I don't know yet...

Again...I am very new to the audio world so I'm trying to get a grip on it all.

Thanks

Hi enal...

Did you get a four channel chassis from Tom or a two channel?  Or did you just get the two amps and a power supply...no chassis?  I assume you want to power one passive subwoofer.  What will be your "single source"?

Correct I only got the amp kit with the two boards and power supply, but no chassis. I was thinking that I could use Amp#1 to power the mains and Amp#2 to power the sub all from the same input source.

Would this simply be done by using a Y type cable to go to the inputs of the two different amps?

Sorry the questions are so dumb? :|

No need to be sorry, that's how we all learn  :D

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple.  Sorry for the bad drawing...

                                                   ------>100hz and above (?)-------------------------------------->CDA 258 stereo----------->Main Speakers
                                                 /
                                               /
preamp----->active crossover
                                              \
                                                \
                                                  ----->99hz and below (?) left and right channels summed----->CDA 258 bridged mono-->Subwoofer

I picked 100hz, but whatever works best for your system.  You don't want to let the speakers dictate the frequency roll off, and you need to be able to adjust the volume to your mains and subwoofer to get them to "blend".

Here's a link to one option, if you want a DIY approach.  Also, much better illustrations!
