Anybody know of a "high value" 18"er for an IB?

Thanks

I would say the Goldwood GW 1858:

I just re-read your question and see you said infinite baffle. What I just recommended was for an H frame open baffle, so might not be so good for infinite, in that the resonance at 30 Hz might be a bit much, You also might enjoy it, anyway!

You should ask this over at the Cult of the Infinitely Baffled web site (under "Loudspeakers"). Drivers for IBs are kinda a moving target when it comes to availability.

Fi is said to be decent:

I use AE IB15s (15") in mine, AFAIK, unfortunately not now being made.

18" and cheap are not usually used in the same sentence.  jk's suggestion is best.  Ask the cult as driver makers don't seem to stay in business very long it seems, so what is hot now is always a moving target.

What do you guys think of this:  http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=295-475

Dayton Audio also has this made specifically for IB. Although I'm hankering for 18"ers.

I found most of the posts over at Cult of the IB a little long in the tooth. Not much help when picking out current available woofers... but maybe didn't look in the right place??

Not sure what the OP means by cheap, but here's an interesting project that might fit the bill:

The most current projects are in the "My Project" section, but you have to register to get in there. Mine is titled "johnvb's IB project". Once you do register, start a new thread in the Loudspeaker section, at least Thomas should give you a reply.

Another idea is maybe you can score a more expensive driver, but cheaper in the used driver market.

Here's another IB forum (don't tell ThomasW you went there, evidently there's some bad vibes between the two  :? ):

I read your posts. I can see I am asking the same questions yoiu did. How did the 15" ers work out for ya?

OK... guys I've backed up a bit and am in the middle of more research. Still trying to figure out which driver. You know how it is... the more you learn the more you realize you need to learn more.

I'll be posting again soon.

The AE drivers have worked out great, really a shame they discontinued them. You could always email the owner of AE, John Janowitz, to see if he has anything to offer right now.

Yes, if I remember from my research, at the same costs, two Fi 18", will work as good or better than four of the AE15s, but actually require less of a backwave area. I went with the AE because I wanted stereo manifolds, two drivers per side.

I will try to use them as dipole sub, not as infinite, because the walls here are brick and the room is very big so the fs of the room is not above the fs of the speaker, so we can hope to achieve something good.
