Aksonics - where to purchase drivers?
« on: 16 Jun 2004, 08:11 am »
Hi all. First time poster.  :|

I have wanted a good quality audio setup as long as I can remember but never could afford one. I can follow instructions, have good carpentry skills and can wield a soldering iron with the best of them but the design work in DIY was beyond me. But, thanks to finding Hugh’s  site I am going to take the plunge and build my own system. A few questions for the community if I could? My first project will be the speakers. The system will have to double as a HT system.

Can I use Aksonic’s for the rears as well?

Is there any news on an Akcentre?

Can anyone suggest where I can purchase the drivers from here in Australia ?

Thank You
Brownee

Hi Brownee,

Welcome to the forum!!  You'll find lots of like minded people here....

Yes, you can certainly use AKSonics for the rear channels, although the power handling might be a bit more than you need.

The AKSenter is done, I have one in my system right now, I have the plans, but I'm frantically trying to find time to do the instructions.....  It's the old question, too much to do, not enough time.  I'll keep you posted, as I'm trying to do with the US Audition amp, the DAKSA with Ben, and the Nirvana Plus for the 100W amp.

Thank you for dropping by!

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi Brownie

You can get the appropriate drivers through WES components by the way.  They provide a good service and when one of my drivers had a problem, it was replaced immediately and without question.

Cheers

How quick is that . I can’t believe how helpful and active this group is.  (you must all be from VIC as us northerners have been watching State Of Origin for the last few hours)

Thanks for the info.

I haven’t heard of WES components Ian, but will do a search on the net to find them.

A Sub would be good wouldn’t it.

Thanks again

contact details for WES and many other suppliers can be found on the Aspen site. Start at contact (or a product page) and follow the links.

3 month wait

Dear All,

Last time I checked with WES components (i.e. about 1 month ago) they said there was a three month delay on getting the woofers.  Does anyone know if this is still true?

MW

Mark,

We ordered some only a couple of weeks ago, had 'em within two days.  The speaker is now delivered (in kit form).

Cheers,

Hugh

Mark,

I contacted WES two days ago to get a price and all the speakers were in stock.

Thanks

Glen,

Forgive me, didn't answer your question on the 5.1 kit!

The AKSenter is a reality but the documentation/photography awaits.  I have discussed with Ben the woofer situation - he is a hugely accomplished speaker designer as well as a digital man - and this is a future project.  Ron has some lovely designs for subs (I have a 130 litre isobaric with two 12" drivers which is 3dB down at 17Hz but I never really feel the need to use it, but man, it's good) but Ben and I want something really revolutionary and a little smaller.

So, the answer it yes maybe, when the DAKSA and a few other projects are complete and running......  Oh, and did I mention?  I'm doing a little marketing too, trying to up sales on the amplifiers.

BTW, two days ago I finished development of the Nirvana Plus on the 100W.  I'm over the moon, it's just astonishing.   :hyper:   I'm now deep in the documentation/photography, but can't seem to get good light in southern Australia, which is a pest.

Cheers,

Hugh

Cheers Hugh, it was mildly in jest anyway ;-)

this -3 @ 17hz (@ 1w/1metre?) sub has me intrigued though... pretty impressive and beyond 95% of anything in the market!
