FS: Gainclone
« on: 12 Dec 2012, 10:14 pm »
For sale is a gainclone amp that I have been kicking around for a while to play with and test speakers with. This amp sounds better than many amps costing $500 or more. I like the warmth it has in the midrange and the strong bass output from the class - D chips.

This is the 30 Watt version with a giant transformer and silent operation - the pot was wired in reverse for better tracking.

Asking $120 Shipped CONUS

Thanks,
Sam

So is it a Gainclone or a Class D?  Gainclones are usually based on a National Semiconductor LMxxxx high power op-amp normally biased class A/B and does not digitally modulate the waveform like Class D.

If it is a Gainclone chip amp, do you know which model chips it uses?

It would help to have some more info on the chip and pics of the interior if possible...

Would this work as a bass amp in a biamped OB system?

It's a LM1875 and produces 25 watts per channel. It's a good little amplifier. I'm not gonna open it up at the moment because I don't want to mess with it. Suffice to say I am happy with it. It has a  transformer (toroidal) 160va.

Thanks,
Sam

If I wanted a bass amp I would get something with at least 150 watts. But what do I know? Your needs could be different.

Thanks,
Sam

Hi sam:

I am very much interested in your gainclone amp. I have several questions:

1. May I ask who built the amp?

2. Can you absolutely confirm this is an LM1875 chip amp?

Thanks.
