Despite being a believer in the value of good analog cables, for the past 4 years I have resisted spending money on expensive USB cables, using an inexpensive Transparent Audio Labs model that I got with a DAC I purchased at some point in the past. I could hear no difference between it, a basic Wireworld model and a cheap everyday USB PC cable. After reading the latest Absolute Sound list of products of the year, I found and purchased a used Wireworld Platinum Starlight cable. Well, after a few hours of listening it sounds better, plain and simple. I don't get the larger soundstage mentioned in the review, but the smoothness on vocals is sublime. Everything just sounds a tad more real and beautiful. I doubt if a non-audiophile would even notice the differences, but after 40 years of doing this I trust my own impressions, and this thing is a valid, if small, improvement. So it's another case of not understanding, but believing. I just finished discussing this with a non-audiophile buddy who was a network engineer and spent a lot of time analyzing signals for ma bell and he thinks I am simply delusional and a bit crazy. He's only half right.
